Young Frankenstein Photos & Video
It has been more than 40 years since Mel Brooks first presented the hit movie Young Frankenstein to audiences around the world. In the intervening years it has become a favourite of cinemagoers, building up a loyal following of enthusiastic fans, which was amplified in 2007 when a stage version landed in the United States.
Now, in 2017, West End audiences will be able to witness this fantastic show, with Mel Brooks’ music and lyrics bringing the house down alongside a book written by him and Thomas Meehan. The result will be one of the biggest West End musicals of the decade as it opens at the Garrick Theatre in a year that also brings us 42nd Street and Bat Out Of Hell The Musical in the capital.
The horror parody introduces us to the character of Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the more-famous Victor Von Frankenstein. Whilst people often ask him about his famous grandfather he would prefer not to talk about him, but his work is soon going to define his life as he inherits his property in Transylvania and, upon inspection, realises that he is fascinated by the experiments that made the man’s name. It might be time to reinvest in the family business!
Along the way we hear musical numbers like He Vas My Boyfriend, Transylvania Mania, Please Send Me Someone, He’s Loose and Man About Town, amongst others.
This is the first time that the show has been seen in the West End and it comes to the Garrick Theatre following a run in Newcastle and numerous appearances in the United States. It is the latest step in a long journey for a story that has captured imaginations around the world and continues to find new fans.
Then again we’ve come to expect no less from Mel Brooks, the legendary director, composer and comedian whose films and musicals have entertained audiences for decades, from Blazing Saddles to the legendary show The Producers he has had a profound effect on popular culture.
So it’s no wonder everyone is talking about Young Frankenstein as it heads to the Garrick Theatre for performances beginning on Tuesday 10th October 2017 (previews from Thursday 28th September 2017).
