The West End regularly welcomes some of the biggest stars in the world to tread the boards of its stages and 2019 will be no different as a host of top names head to the capital. Amongst them is Matthew Broderick, making his first foray into a West End theatre as he stars in The Starry Messenger alongside Elizabeth McGovern.
This will be an opportunity not only to witness a well known star of the stage and screen in London, but also a chance to witness the work of Kenneth Lonergan, the writer and filmmaker whose previous projects have earned numerous awards and nominations.
This will be a poignant and memorable story that will stay with audiences for some time to come as we take a trip to New York City and meet the character of Mark Williams, an astronomer whose life is staring up at the sky. Soon, however, he meets a woman called Angela in one of his classes and this forces him to confront matters back on Earth as he questions his place and his views.
The Starry Messenger comes to London following its first appearances in New York a decade ago (though the Royal Court Theatre also gave it a rehearsed reading at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 2012), where Matthew Broderick previously portrayed Mark. It is a play from the acclaimed Kenneth Lonergan, who has had great success with films like Manchester By The Sea, television shows like Howard’s End and stage shows like This Is Our Youth, Lobby Hero and the Pulitzer Prize-nominated The Waverly Gallery.
The Starry Messenger runs at the Wyndham’s Theatre from Thursday 16th May 2019.
