Every year in the West End a Christmas tradition takes place with the annual staging of The Snowman at the Peacock Theatre. For fans of Raymond Briggs’ classic story it is an unmissable event that is high on their lists at this time of year and as it returns in 2017 expect big demand all over again.
Here in the UK we can’t get enough of The Snowman, whether it is in the form of Raymond Briggs’ popular book or the 1982 animated film that graces our screens every Christmas, and this tradition follows through to the West End.
In The Snowman we focus on a young boy and his adventurous evening in the company of his snowman. It is a particularly cold and snowy Christmas Eve and the boy makes the most of the situation by constructing a snowman, with a magical transformation taking place at the stroke of midnight. When his new friend comes to life and demonstrates the ability to fly, he takes the boy on a journey through the sky as they explore far-off countries and visit the man himself – Father Christmas.
Taking its cues from Briggs’ book and the film that captured imaginations with the song Walking In The Air, The Snowman is an unforgettable Christmas treat that will leave audiences speechless.
This Christmas audiences have a lot of options when it comes to shows for younger audiences – including Dick Whittington at the London Palladium and The Gruffalo’s Child at the Lyric Theatre – and the return of the Snowman only adds to the capital’s reputation as the place to be this festive season.
The Snowman runs at the Peacock Theatre from November 2017.
