It’s time to welcome another top Broadway hit to the West End as the Tony Award-nominated musical School Of Rock makes its way to the New London Theatre.
Based on the hit 2003 film of the same name, this is bound to put smiles on faces as it introduces a new generation to the exploits of Dewey Finn and his attempts to turn his school students into rock legends.
And with Andrew Lloyd Webber providing the music you know that this is in safe hands. The musical theatre legend has been behind some of the most iconic shows of all time, from The Phantom Of The Opera and Cats to Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
With School Of Rock he tackles the story of Dewey Finn (the character played by Jack Black on the big screen), a down-on-his-luck musician who is jobless and has just been kicked out of his band. With few options he decides to pose as his teacher roommate and take on a substitute teacher job at a prep school, where the curriculum bores him, but the chance to make a band of students is irresistible, especially with the battle of the bands just around the corner.
Some of the musical numbers making it into the show are plucked from the film, but others have been penned by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, ensuring a vibrant soundtrack to this unforgettable story. Expect anything from I’m Too Hot For You to Queen Of The Night, Where Did The Rock Go and School Of Rock, amongst others.
With all of this in mind it is no wonder it has already won over the crowds on the other side of the Atlantic, with the Tony nominations and critical acclaim propelling it to great success. It doesn’t hurt that it is based on a popular film as well. When it opens in London it shouldn’t be missed!
School Of Rock joins the likes of Aladdin, Billy Elliot and The Bodyguard as a hit film-turned-musical entertaining crowds in the West End. It opens at the New London Theatre on Monday 14th November 2016 (previews from Monday 24th October 2016).
