This June the Arts Theatre becomes the latest venue in the capital to house the acclaimed and award-winning play Rotterdam from writer Jon Brittain. With a stellar cast and a history that has seen it win praise around the world, to call Rotterdam a must-see would be an understatement as it takes audiences on a memorable journey that is funny, poignant and intelligent.
As such it will be right at home at the Arts Theatre this year as the West End venue is busy welcoming a range of shows, from the poignant (The Wipers Times) to the comedic (The Toxic Avenger). So this will be a great place to witness a show that critics have been praising.
The story takes us to Rotterdam in the Netherlands where we meet the characters of Alice and Fiona, a gay couple at a turning point in their relationship. Alice has decided to tell her parents about their relationship and Fiona has also made a decision – to live her life as a man named Adrian, having always considered himself a part of the opposite sex. But as Alice identifies as gay, the news throws up a lot of questions that make her question herself in ways she didn’t expect.
The show played at the Trafalgar Studios last year and it its success there was the latest in a long line of success stories for Jon Brittain’s play. It finds fans wherever it goes and its latest venture into Theatreland cannot come soon enough.
Rotterdam is set to begin performances at the West End’s Arts Theatre for a brief run from Wednesday 21st June 2017.
