The Pinter At The Pinter Season includes some of Harold Pinter’s one-act plays appearing in double, triple and quadruple bills at the fitting venue of the Harold Pinter Theatre. They celebrate one of the nation’s most beloved playwrights, whose work over half-a-century ensured a legacy that will live on even as we get to the 10-year anniversary of his death in 2008.
With that in mind, audiences will relish in this particular double bill, which not only features top stars in Danny Dyer and Martin Freeman and a big name director in Jamie Lloyd, but also includes some unmissable shows in A Slight Ache and The Dumb Waiter.
A Slight Ache takes us to a country house where we meet the married couple of Edward and Flora. The arrival of a new presence on their turf is enough to turn their lives upside down as a fear of the unknown and existential crises about aging play out. It was penned in the late 1950s, which is also when audiences first experienced it in 1958.
The Dumb Waiter emerged from the same period in Harold Pinter’s career and focuses on two hit men in the form of Gus and Ben. They wait in the foreboding basement of an abandoned building, their next hit on the horizon, as the tension builds and its shocking ending grows closer.
Jamie Lloyd is known for his work with the Trafalgar Transformed seasons at the Trafalgar Studios, which also saw some top names appear in the West End. For The Pinter At The Pinter, he once again brings some big names to perform in some high profile work, this time in Eastenders’ Danny Dyer and Sherlock’s Martin Freeman.
A Slight Ache and The Dumb Waiter both run as a double bill in The Pinter At The Pinter Season, which runs at the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre from Thursday 6th September 2018.
