The West End’s Arts Theatre becomes the home of a brand new comedy this March as Gary Sinyor’s NotMoses opens at the venue.
For fans of imaginative comedies that put new spins on well known stories, NotMoses will make them feel right at home as we join our main character in Ancient Egypt and witness events there from the Biblical Book of Exodus at a different vantage point.
The show has been put together by Gary Sinyor and this is a significant point in his career as his previous work has been as a film writer and director, meaning that he has been responsible for an array of award-winning and nominated films. His most recent work is United We Fall, a 2014 mockumentary that focuses on former Manchester United players, though he has also been responsible for films such as In Your Dreams and Bob The Butler. The latter stars Tom Green and Brooke Shields and was released in 2005.
But with NotMoses he explores the stage as this intriguing comedy heads to the Arts Theatre, one of the West End’s newest venues. Considering the award-winning pedigree of its writer and director this will certainly be a show to keep a close eye on when it opens at the venue in March.
NotMoses is the main character of the story and we meet him as a child as he lies in a basket on the River Nile, just like Moses did. But when a Princess happens upon him and Moses, considers both, then chooses Moses instead, he must grow up a slave whilst his potential life is lived out by the chosen one. So as the story of Moses plays out in the world of the Pharaoh, NotMoses grows up in less glamorous surroundings until he heads out into the desert with Moses and hears God’s orders. But in the end, maybe there’s a third person in the wings who will be leading the Israelites to safety after all.
NotMoses heads to the home of The Blues Brothers Christmas Special (which runs from December to January) when it opens at the Arts Theatre on Tuesday 15th March 2016 (previews from Thursday 10th March 2016).
