The Trafalgar Studios 2 in London’s West End continues to provide the stage for Lonely Planet, Steven Dietz’s play that takes audiences to the gay community of 1980s America. Directed by Ian Brown, it has offered a poignant tale that highlights the different world a generation ago, prior to the information age and when stigmas ran much higher.
Alexander McMorran and Aaron Vodovoz portray Jody and Carl, two friends whose struggle forces them to confront some unwelcome things. The tale deals with the AIDS crisis, the lonely voices that dealt with it, and the difficulties of communication, tackling the difficult topic with humour and warmth.
The production has already turned heads on Whitehall, where it plays, and this is a testament to the work of writer Steven Dietz, director Ian Brown and performers McMorran and Vodovoz. McMorran brings plenty of stage experience to his role of Jody, of course, having previously appeared in high profile shows like The Commitments on a UK tour and Romeo & Juliet at the New Wimbledon Studio, amongst a range of others.
Lonely Planet continues at the West End’s Trafalgar Studios 2 on Whitehall, with performances ongoing until Saturday 7th July 2018.
