One of the biggest new musicals in London, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie continues to draw in the crowds at the Apollo Theatre. The production is a recipient of great acclaim and Laurence Olivier Award nominations, ensuring this success continues well into its West End run.

John McCrea plays the title role in the production, inspired by the BBC Three documentary Jamie: Drag Queen At 16, and in doing so works under the direction of Jonathan Butterell and writer Tom MacRae. Together with further talented cast members they have crafted something that has captured the hearts of audiences and critics, making it a must-see part of the West End theatrical landscape.

The feel-good story revolves around Jamie New, a sixteen-year-old struggling to get-by in a world that might not accept him for who he is, leading up to the school prom.

It contains musical numbers like The Wall In My Head, The Legend Of Loco Chanelle, Over The Top, It Means Beautiful, He’s My Boy and The Prom Song, amongst others. These songs are put together by Dan Gillespie Sells (best known for his work with the band The Feeling) and have been a huge part of its success.

After all, there’s a good reason this show received so many Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical, and as it continues its run at the Apollo Theatre this will become even more clear to more and more theatregoers.

And in a year that also brings Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and many others, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie still proves its title correct, and it is clear that audiences will continue to flock to the West End for their musical theatre fix.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie continues at the Apollo Theatre.
