The latest new musical coming to the West End will make a brief appearance at the prestigious Theatre Royal Haymarket, often the home to some of the capital’s most renowned plays that star the biggest names of the acing world.
That new musical is Broken Wings, which will provide an unmissable love story that will tug at the heart strings and stay with theatregoers long after the final curtain call.
Broken Wings is based on the autobiography from the Lebonese-American poet Kahil Gibran and takes audiences back in time to two periods – the early 20th century in Beirut and 1920s New York City, where the story is recounted. The love story takes place between the young Gibran and Selma Karamy and with poetry and musical to amplify the narrative we witness their trials in a complicated world. Along the way we meet other characters like Bishop Bulos Galib, Garris Karamy and Mansour Bey Galib, the latter of whom becomes engaged to Selma, adding to the complications of the romantic tale.
This production features a book by Nadmi Naaman and music & lyrics from Naaman and Dana Al Fardan, with Bronagh Lagan directing. The latter has many credits around the country, including The Stationmaster at the Tristan Bates Theatre, Portia Coughlan at the Old Red Lion and RAGS The Musical at the Lyric Theatre, amongst many others.
Broken Wings has a brief run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from Wednesday 1st August 2018.
