Please Note: Craig Revel Horwood steps down from the role of Miss Hannigan in late November, with Meera Syal replacing him from Monday 27th November 2017.
We’ve seen him work as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, choreograph a range of West End and touring shows, and appear in numerous pantomimes but now audiences will have the chance of seeing him take to the stage of the Piccadilly Theatre.
The man is Craig Revel Horwood and the show is Annie The Musical, which returned to the West End in June 2017 and continues to wow the crowds. Under the direction of Nikolai Foster, Horwood will play the villainous Miss Hannigan, replacing Miranda Hart in the iconic role, and ensures fans flock to Theatreland from across the country.
But then we would expect no less for a show as big as Annie! Taking audiences back in time to the New York of the 1930s, we meet the world’s most famous orphan child who resides at the institution of Horwood’s Miss Hannigan. The main aspect of the plot deals with a Christmas that she will never forget when she is invited by billionaire Oliver Warbucks to spend the holiday season at his home. It will be a wonderful opportunity to witness a completely different way of life – as long as the horrible Miss Hannigan doesn’t ruin it.
Making her debut in a 1920s comic strip, the character of Annie has taken audiences by storm across the last century, spawning the hit Broadway musical in the 1970s, the iconic film of the 1980s and, more recently, another film starring the likes of Jamie Foxx. It is clear that audiences can’t get enough of Annie and this is going to be reflected in this latest staging of the classic musical in London’s West End.
It was first seen here in 1978, playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre, and today it takes pride of place at the Piccadilly Theatre and introduces a new generation of audiences to some classic songs like Hard Knock Life and more.
And with Craig Revel Horwood in a lead role this is bound to attract a large crowd of keen fans, eager to see the Strictly judge take on an iconic part!
Annie The Musical continues performances at the Piccadilly Theatre, having opened in June 2017.
