When it comes to the great playwrights of the 20th century, one of the best known has to be Arthur Miller, the famous writer of iconic shows like The Crucible and Death Of A Salesman, and this is reflected in the multitude of revivals of another hit, All My Sons.
But this version of All My Sons will be an unmissable treat for a wide range of reasons; not only does it boast direction from Jeremy Herrin and a venue in the Old Vic Theatre, it has also recruited Hollywood legends Bill Pullman and Sally Field to play husband and wife Joe and Kate Keller.
All My Sons takes audiences back to the United States of the 1940s, dealing with the Keller family and their struggles with the past. Joe once designed plane engines, but a defective batch led to the death of his son fighting in the Second World War and so we meet the Keller’s after their lives have already been torn apart. But it is still possible to fall further and whilst they deal with this guilt and resentment, they must also deal with their son’s former fiancé moving-on alongside the personal demons.
With Pullman and Field in lead roles, this will be a captivating and memorable show. Both performers have decades of experience on the stage and screen, with Pullman known for films like Independence Day and plays like The Goat Or Who Is Sylvia? on Broadway, and Field known for The Amazing Spider-Man, ER and Mrs Doubtfire, amongst others.
Both performers will bring a lot to their roles, particularly with the expert hand of Jeremy Herring guiding the way. So as All My Sons finds a new audience in the 21st century, this 1947 play continues to cement its legacy.
All My Sons begins performances at the Old Vic Theatre on Tuesday 23rd April 2019 (with previews beginning on Monday 15th April 2019).
